History of Kamakura Hangetsu
In the ancient capital city of Kamakura, just south of Tokyo, famed for its seasonal blooms & literature, there is a bustling shopping street, Komachi-dorii leading to Tsurugaoka Hachimangu Shrine. This is where the popular “Hangetsu” (half-moon) sandwich wafer, the bestselling product from Kamakura Goro Main Store, an authentic confectionery shop was born in 1990.
After years of popularity and word-of-mouth publicity, the snack has been awarded “No.1 sweets from Kamakura that you are happy to receive” from a recent online survey in March 2021.
Kamakura Hangetsu 鎌倉半月
Embossed with its iconic adorable moon rabbit design, Kamakura Hangetsu (meaning ” half-moon”) delicate, semi-circular crispy crackers have a subtle sweetness. In between the mildly sweet thin crispy crackers, there is a creamy filling that comes in two different flavours: Ogura adzuki bean a.k.a red bean and matcha. Striking a delicious balance of flavours, pair it with a cup of tea to complete your experience.
This long-selling product “Kamakura Hangetsu”, which has been on the market for more than 20 years, is still a Kamakura confectionery that represents “Kamakura Goro Main Store”.
Red Bean & Matcha Flavour
Finely ground red beans and matcha are kneaded into each dough into the elegant crispy crackers with a subtle sweetness.
The sandwich was made with plenty of cream of Ogura and matcha. If you chew plain, it is a crispy and immovable popular two-flavor.
In order to make it pleasant and gentle in the mouth, the dough of the crispy crackers was also baked with its own flavor.
