BRAND STORY
‘WITH A JAPANESE TWIST’
While vacationing in Spain, a Japanese pâtissier stumbled across Basque cheesecakes and became obsessed with it. She then decided to recreate it in her home country, Japan. Her version was a huge success and BASK. cheesecakes became known all over the country.
We brought over her Basque-Japanese cheesecake to Malaysia and straight to you!
BASK. celebrates fusions of all kinds: ideas, textures, ingredients, and styles. With its burnt exterior and soft, velvety center – BASK. Cheesecakes is a dessert that captivates most of those who taste it.
It’s a cake of contradictions: rustic, cracked, burnt, gooey, all at the same time. The integration of it all, we hope to share the profound love of Basque Cheesecakes with our customers and enjoy the experience of flavours BASK has to offer.
ORIGINS
The humble pastry chef took her time perfecting her creation. When she finally arrived at the finest of cheesecakes, she saw that it was good: brown on the outside, and perfectly, velvety smooth on the inside. A single bite was enough to free a tired soul from the stressors of modern life.
To pay homage its San Sebastian origins, the chef named her creation “Basque Cheesecake”. Today, this same cheesecake is brought to you by The Tokyo Restaurant.
FOOD
Basque burnt cheesecake is a crustless cake made out of 5 humble ingredients: cream cheese, cream, sugar, eggs, and flour. What´s truly unique about this dessert happens during its preparation; because it’s cooked fast and at a high temperature, it remains creamy and smooth in the middle but acquires a caramelized (almost burnt) outer crust. This results in an explosive combination of flavors and textures that seduces and surprises in equal measures.
