Marking Isetan Kuala Lumpur’s 31st Anniversary milestone, Cultivation – Isetan’s in-house label – teams up with prolific fashion designer Khoon Hooi to create a limited edition Chinese New Year capsule collection with the contemporary woman in mind.
Themed “A Garden in Bloom”, the collection celebrates the new spring season of 2021, bringing in a much needed boost of positivity and lightness following 2020’s tumultuous year. The limited-edition festive capsule merges Cultivation’s classic career-wear styles infused with modern elements, contemporary cuts, and bold clash of prints, while incorporating Khoon Hooi’s signature opulent approach to craftsmanship and bespoke design.
Inspired by the Qipao with a modern perspective, the collection emphasizes on horticultural elements infused with a diverse colour story from bright tones such as auspicious red, tangerine, yellow, pink, olive, teal and cobalt, to light pastels in soft pinks, creams and lilacs. Mandarin collars and emerald green buttons are reoccurring details throughout the collection, fused with delightfully mismatched materials and clashing prints with solids.
Key items include a transformable floral fitted dress with a detachable mandarin collared cape, and a metallic pastel brocade blouse with a belt, paired with a swishing pleated skirt. Another standout piece is an A-line dress with ruffled hem at the back, with playful placements of contrastingly bold checker prints that comes in orange and yellow colorways.
Khoon Hooi’s signature balloon skirt makes an appearance in floral pink brocade fabrication, that can be paired with a hot pink sleeveless blouse which also comes in a colourblock cobalt and khaki colourway. Most fabrics used in the collection are sourced from Japan, and its garments skilfully produced by local manufacturers that has worked closely with Cultivation since the brand’s beginnings.
